This has nothing to do with DeviantArt. Or my art. This is just me semi-ranting and attempting to be more active on here. Heh...
(That last journal was still a thing though! And when it comes to DA, much more relevant to... things... Just sayin
)
Okay so yes. Religion.
I don't care what religion anyone is. It has nothing to do with who they are as a person. I honestly wouldn't care if you idolized a head of cabbage, as long as you weren't hurting anybody. This journal isn't about that. Instead, it's about people's
stereotypical interpretations of different religions, particularly Agnosticism and Satanism. These things just really bug me.
First, Agnosticism, because I feel like I have a greater understanding of how it works than Satanism, which I know of pretty much entirely through observation.
Before I say anything else, I want to make it clear that
Agnosticism is not Atheism! Agnosticism is just as far away from Atheism as it is from Christianity. On that note, someone religiously undecided is not an Atheist.
An Atheist principally believes that there is no god. The people themselves may differ, but the religion itself has little to no room for uncertainty there.
Agnosticism, on the other hand,
chiefly consists of the belief that the existence of a god cannot be proven. Considering Agnostics as religiously neutral individuals wouldn't be inherently incorrect, but Agnosticism isn't always that simple. Of course, Agnostics (like participants in any other "religion") are always individuals. They hold their own perspectives and beliefs, including philosophical conceptions and religious bias.
In my own experiences with Agnosticism, I've come to believe that religion itself is sort of irrelevant to my lifestyle, and that the only thing that matters about religion in a person is how it affects their own lifestyles. If any system of faith causes someone to view someone else with significant discriminatory bias (and if they acted upon that bias), then I would have an issue with
that person's interpretation of that religion. Any religion has the potential for good, much like any religion has the potential for bad.
Then again, ideas of "good" and "bad" also have a lot to do with religion, and philosophy. I suppose that if someone was doing something I viewed as terrible, but if they sincerely believed that their actions were good, then I shouldn't be able to disrespect their own perspective.
That's kind of part of the reason I like the neutrality of Agnosticism. It substitutes a relative "lack of faith" with removal of faith-related bias. Pros and Cons, I suppose.
Right. Satanism. This part's less thoughtful and just. Yeah.
Guys we need to have a talk. We need to consider the fact that views produced by Western culture aren't. Factual. Not always, at least.
So yeah. This would be one of those times.
See. I see the connotations there. Cause. Cause Satan is usually a bad. Thing. But, see. That connotation there is kind of where the whole thing began. Because Satan in Christianity is this. This bad thing. (I'm generalizing a lot here, guys. Can you tell? Yeah.) But the thing with Satanism is that it doesn't. Really have much to do with Satan. Well, not always, at least.
Satanism's actually a really broad term for a ton of systems of faiths. The problem really is pop culture. Because social interpretation of Satanism nowadays basically consists of images of
cults and pentagrams and cloaked figures and things like that. (The main principles of a lot of branches of it kind of remind me of a more thoughtful form of
this. (I'm having fun with that linking thing. Can you tell?))
Also I really hope I didn't offend anyone with this. Any corrections in any derp thing I might've said are welcome. xD
